Cooper’s Expanding Subject Matter

Cooper has been a bit distracted lately – or more realistically we have been a bit distracted lately. Oh yes, Cooper’s still going out and shooting lots of pictures on sunny days. However, after he comes back with another set of 300 incredible shots we haven’t been doing much more than enjoying them ourselves. Internet, we’ve been so selfish.

All this is just to say that Cooper is going to be a big brother! We’re expecting a human baby in November. Cooper has been spending extra time watching TV with mom getting extra love and hoping that she’s having kittens instead. So – does anyone have suggestions on how to take an only-cat and make him into a good big brother?

Also, Cooper wanted to share with you a photo he did not take, but has some professional notes on:
Cooper is currently licking an ice cube in Deirdre’s hand. We’re not sure it’s cooling him off this hot evening – but it sure is keeping him entertained.

I have a issue here.. My Cat goes to my neighbours house and then drinks the milk and then comes back… Anything I can do to stop that?

Our first baby was a cat too, and when we brought home our human baby from the hospital, we put the baby carrier on the floor and just let the cat sniff her to his heart’s content. Also with any pet it’s recommended to pet him when you’re holding the baby (if the pet is nearby) so that he associates the baby with positive attention. We tried to practice this and our cat never once showed hostility towards the baby. Congratulations and the best of luck!

Hi, I love your site, as well as Cooper and his wonderful photographs. Unfortunately, I want to alert you to a small danger that cats pose to unborn children. Please read this link, as it discusses how cat owners can avoid infecting their infants with toxoplasmosis.

I wish you all the best, congratulations!

Hi! Our son is five now and has grown up with our 4 cats, one of whom is "exceptionally affectionate" (it said so on his adoption tag, and it's so true). We all nudge and cuddle in the mornings, although it can be problematic with the cat stepping on the kid (especially a baby!!). All in all it's gone well, and our child loves cats and animals and often pretends to be a cat, especially a "zero month old baby kitty" and then we have to take care of him.

Hello, I am currently the parent of an "only child" cat right now and my first baby is due August 23rd. My boy is a 14 year old by the name of Stanley, since I've been pregnant he has become my shadow, he cuddles up under my belly and purrs the day away. I'm hoping he will adjust well to his new baby sister. A friend suggested that I bring home a piece of her clothing from the hospital to give to Stanley so he can know her smell before we bring her home. Also, I read on a website that its good to make a quiet place with the cats bed or blanket so he has an escape from when the baby cries.
